Clifford started his career with Sutton Cricket Club as a second team scorer and then continued as a player in 1939.
During the Second World War, Clifford took a break from cricket for four years whilst he served in the Royal Air Force. After completing his time with the RAF Clifford resumed his association with the club playing for Sutton's first team and the Craven League team, he then went on to captain the second team for a number of years. Clifford is the only surviving member of the Sutton in Craven team who won the "Wynn Cup" in 1947.
Clifford has not only given to the Club as a player but has also served as Ground's Man, Coach and has held various positions on the Committee, and is still very active within the Clubs structure today.
